When should you bring up pay in an interview? After you receive a job offer so you don’t “box yourself in,” says Alexandra Dickinson, who is a negotiation coach. Once the recruiter says the company wants to hire you, then begin the negotiation and share your target salary — based on your research. And if you’re asked to disclose your current salary, don’t. Dickinson says “you want to be paid based on the skill set you are bringing to the current role in the marketplace you are in right now.”
